ENERGISE Centre
The ENERGISE Centre – ENabling a Just Energy Transition through Renewable Energy, Governance and Innovative Sustainable Entrepreneurship – is an African-German academic partnership dedicated to advancing interdisciplinary education, collaborative research and transdisciplinary innovation in the field of Just Energy Transition (JET).
The Centre brings together the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and four South African partner universities to develop integrated solutions that combine engineering, energy policy and sustainable entrepreneurship.
Consortium
The ENERGISE consortium consists of:

- University of the Witwatersrand (Wits)
- University of Johannesburg (UJ)
- Tshwane University of Technology (TUT)
- University of Venda (UNIVEN)
Together, the partners build long-term institutional cooperation and strengthen research capacity in the field of Just Energy Transition.
What We Do
ENERGISE promotes socially inclusive and sustainable energy transformation through:
- Interdisciplinary Master’s education
- Doctoral research in collaborative South–North tandems
- Living Labs in South Africa
- Academic exchange and mobility formats
- Research symposia, seminars, and transdisciplinary webinars
